Search, Tags & Saved Views

CMDash provides tools to quickly locate resources and organize filtered views for repeated use, reducing the time spent navigating to commonly needed data.

The global search bar is accessible via the magnifying glass icon in the top of the sidebar, or by pressing / on any page. Global search returns results from:

  • Risks — matches on risk title, description, and tags
  • Controls — matches on control ID, title, and description across all enabled frameworks
  • Policies — matches on policy title and content
  • Integrations — matches on integration name
  • Evidence — matches on evidence description

Results are grouped by type. Click any result to navigate directly to that resource. Search is executed against your workspace's data; results from other workspaces are never returned.

Search supports exact phrase matching (wrap the query in quotes) and is case-insensitive.

Tags

Tags are custom labels you create and apply to risks, controls, policies, and evidence items. They provide a flexible way to organize and filter resources across the platform.

Creating tags: Tags are created on the fly when you apply them to a resource. Type a new tag name in any tag field and press Enter to create it.

Applying tags: Open any risk, control, or policy detail panel, click the Tags field, and type or select from existing tags. Multiple tags can be applied to a single resource.

Filtering by tag: In any list view (Risk Register, Compliance controls, Policies), use the tag filter to show only resources with a specific tag. Tag filtering supports AND logic (resources must have all selected tags) or OR logic (resources must have at least one selected tag), selectable via the filter UI.

Managing tags: Navigate to Settings > Tags to view all tags in the workspace, rename tags (the rename applies to all resources where the tag is used), or delete tags (removes them from all resources).

Common tag patterns used by CMDash customers:

  • By system or application (e.g., aws-prod, crm-system)
  • By team or department (e.g., infra-team, dev-team, legal)
  • By audit cycle (e.g., soc2-2026, cmmc-assessment)
  • By risk type (e.g., third-party, insider-threat, cloud)

Saved Views

A Saved View is a stored filter and sort configuration for any list view in CMDash. Saved Views make it easy to return to a specific slice of data without re-applying filters each time.

Creating a Saved View:

  1. Navigate to any list view (Risk Register, Compliance controls, Remediations, etc.).
  2. Apply filters, sort, and column selections as desired.
  3. Click Save View in the toolbar.
  4. Name the view and optionally make it the default view for this section.
  5. Click Save.

Saved Views appear in the toolbar's view selector dropdown. Views are personal (visible only to you) by default. Owners and Admins can share a Saved View with the full workspace by clicking Share View from the view options.

Saved Views can also be pinned to the Dashboard as a widget for quick access to the underlying list.

Editing or deleting a Saved View: Open the view selector dropdown, hover over the view name, and click the edit (pencil) or delete (trash) icon. Deleting a view does not affect the underlying data.
