Focus Navigation
What it is
Focus navigation is a shortcut group at the top of the sidebar — Assess · Prove · Sign — that points straight at the three pages a defense contractor working through a CMMC self-assessment needs most, instead of scrolling CMDash's full menu:

It's rendered above the ordinary sidebar section list, which is never hidden, filtered, or collapsed by it — everything else in CMDash stays exactly one scroll away underneath. There is nothing this shortcut makes unreachable.
When to use it
Leave it showing if you're working through a CMMC self-assessment end to end and want a fixed one-click path between the score, the receipts, and the signature — it's meant to keep a single-job workspace pointed at that job instead of lost in the rest of the menu. Hide it once you regularly work outside those three pages and the extra rows are in your way.
Before you start
- Tier: no gate — it's a client-side sidebar preference, not a licensed feature.
- Role: every member sees their own copy; the on/off choice is per person, per browser (see Before you begin, below).
- Who it shows for: only someone whose onboarding role is "a defense contractor"
(
cmmc-osc) — the one obligation CMDash tracks a landing page for today. Any other role, "exploring," or no role recorded at all shows nothing here (a shortcut for a job the product doesn't yet track would be a dead end, not a feature). It never shows in the collapsed/rail nav mode, where there isn't room for a labelled group. - Default: on for a FREE-tier workspace, off for every other tier — a free, single-job workspace stays pointed at that job by default, while a paying workspace (already using more of the product) isn't narrowed without asking.
How to
Hide it
Click Everything else at the bottom of the Focus group. This only turns the shortcut group off — it is a preference toggle, not a link — the full sidebar underneath was already showing and keeps showing exactly as before.
Bring it back
Your choice is remembered per browser, per person (stored locally in that browser, not on the server). If you hide it and want it back:
- Sign in from a different browser or device, where no choice has been stored yet — it reverts to the tier default (on for Free, off otherwise).
- Or clear this site's stored browser data, which removes the saved choice the same way.
There is currently no in-app switch to turn it back on again in the same browser without doing one of the above.
Common questions
I'm on a paid tier and don't see it — is that a bug? No — it defaults off above Free. If your onboarding role is "a defense contractor," you can still expect the same three pages to be one click away through the ordinary sidebar sections (Compliance, Proof).
Does hiding it affect anyone else in my workspace? No — the choice is stored per user, in that person's own browser, not shared across your workspace or synced across devices.
