UEBA
Behavior analytics for insider and account threats.
Overview
User and Entity Behavior Analytics models normal behavior to flag compromised accounts, insider risk, and lateral movement. It augments SIEM detections with anomaly scoring. Usually sold as a SIEM/XDR add-on rather than standalone. Pricing follows identities or data volume.
Behavioral analytics layered onto a mature SIEM.
Advantages
- Exabeam/Securonix strong analytics
- catches insider risk and account compromise
- augments SIEM detections.
Trade-offs
- Usually an add-on rather than standalone
- baselining and false positives
- needs quality identity data
- cost on top of SIEM.
Open-source option
Still no mature, widely-adopted turnkey open-source UEBA. OpenUBA is the closest dedicated attempt — a CNCF-Sandbox-track framework relicensed to Apache 2.0 in 2026 — but it's self-labeled BETA and was dormant for roughly three and a half years (mid-2022 to early 2026) before this year's revival, so it doesn't yet displace the 'assemble it yourself from Elastic ML / Wazuh / OpenSearch Anomaly Detection' reality for production use.
