AI Governance & Management Systems

Inventories, assesses and governs AI systems.

Distinct from AI security posture management, which protects models and pipelines. This is the governance layer: an inventory of every AI system and vendor in use, risk classification against the EU AI Act tiers, impact assessments, model documentation, bias and performance evidence, human-oversight controls, and an auditable management system — ISO/IEC 42001 being the certifiable form, and NIST AI RMF the risk methodology. The EU AI Act became binding with enforcement from August 2026, which converted this from a responsible-AI aspiration into a compliance programme with deadlines.

Now time-bound rather than optional for anyone placing AI systems on the EU market — and shadow AI is already in your estate.

  • An AI inventory is the prerequisite for every other AI obligation, and almost nobody has one
  • EU AI Act risk tiering decides which obligations apply — getting it wrong is expensive in both directions
  • ISO 42001 is certifiable, so it gives buyers and regulators something concrete
  • Reuses the ISMS machinery you already run rather than inventing a parallel programme
  • Vendor AI assessment catches the model risk arriving through your SaaS supply chain
  • A young market with rapid consolidation — Optro acquired FairNow, and more will follow
  • Regulatory interpretation is still settling; tooling encodes opinions that may not survive
  • Inventory completeness is the hard part, and shadow AI defeats manual registration
  • Heavy overlap with privacy, model risk management and existing GRC — easy to buy the same thing twice
  • Governance artifacts are simple to generate and hard to make meaningful

The frameworks are free — NIST AI RMF, the ISO 42001 structure, and the EU AI Act text itself — and CISO Assistant ships AI-related framework content alongside its 40-plus other libraries. There is no mature open-source AI governance platform with model documentation, bias evidence and automated system discovery; the discovery half in particular has no free equivalent.

CMDash — the product this site sells — is listed as one of the options in this area; that listing exists so you can see the conflict of interest, it is not a claim about how it compares to the alternatives, and the listing itself carries no extra weight in how any option here is presented.
